Coaching

Since I left drama school I have worked with actors from all over the world and from many different schools, actors trained in different methods, and just as many actors who have never trained but have learnt on the job. The industry doesn’t care what approach you use but they do want actors who are open, flexible and committed with the ability to make unique choices. I offer a personal tailor made approach where we can unlock blocks you have and explore where you want to go using a range of techniques including, Miesner, Stanislavksi, and mindfulness, to help you be on your game, keeping you present, connected and alive.

Whether it’s preparation for casting and self-tapes, developing a  role for a project you’ve been cast in, ongoing practice or a specific area of your craft you wish to look at, I'm ready to help.

About

ABOUT ME

I graduated from Central School of Speech and Drama in 2004 I have been acting professionally for over fifteen years working in theatre, film, Television, Motion Capture and BBC Radio. I also have extensive training in the Miesner Technique, working in groups, with young actors in the Big House Theatre Company and of course 1-2-1.

Most recently I’ve worked with a company of fifty actors as the writer and performance director of the immersive theatre show Money Heist for Netflix (2022). Directing performances as a company, smaller groups and 1-2-1, using a variety of improvisation techniques and games, mindfulness, Meisner and script work. I have also coached actors as writer/director on other immersive shows including Resident Evil (2017), and Virtually Dead (2015)

As an Actor I have been directed by Kathryn Bigelow in the feature film Zero Dark Thirty, I developed the character of Lord Fallon for two seasons in the HULU/BBC series Harlots alongside Samantha Morton, Liv Tyler and Lesley Manville. I worked with the Factory Theatre Company on their rehearsal room style original Hamlet – where the actors knew all the parts, but roles were decided spontaneously on the night by paper-scissors-stone. And I’ve toured the country for 9months with The History Boys, learning how it can be different every night, night after night.

As Creative Director of the Listeners Project, a 24 hour site-specific film project, I have mentored over 300 people to create short films and wrote and directed four of my own.

I am also Creative Director of A Thousand Word Photos cross-disciplinary project that brings together photographers and writers to create original stories which are read by actors to stroke patients for Interact Stroke Support. These collaborations have also been shared at live shows at the TJ Boulting Gallery, the Arcola Theatre and will next year be performed at the Soho Theatre. As part of the project I also run workshops in schools.

Jefferson Hall

Actor - Vikings, Devs, Taboo

'Ben has a real instinct for unlocking scripts. It’s a great to have a sparring partner before a job or audition cos you won’t necessarily get that on set or in a meeting and preparation is everything. It’s invaluable to have the sole focus on you, having someone’s undivided attention on your craft will pay off.'

Nina Singh

Graduate Actor

‘I worked with Ben on my speeches for Drama school. He helped me work on them calling me on bad choices, and helping me to trust my instincts and to work deeper. I know his coaching gave me the confidence to feel ready for the audition - I got onto the 3 year course at East 15. I’ve graduated now and have worked with him again prepping for my first job!’
